The following contains details of Episode 629: The Devil’s Fist! A Show Down! Luffy vs. Grount!.
The news of the Doflamingo resignation of the 7 Great Corsairs spread rapidly throughout the world. On an unknown island, a man asks another what their business will become with the Don Quixote family. One of them tries to call the family, but no one answers at the other end. Another man proclaims that they will lose this war if they have no more weapons. Jewelry Bonney curiously reads the newspaper, and learns the alliance of Luffy and Law while eating a pizza party. People are reacting to the news, assuming that the alliances will not lead to anything good, and that Doflamingo must have had his reasons for resigning. Among these readers are also Jinbei and Crocodile who are on 2 different islands.
In the lair of Kidd’s crew, the crew read the news and wondered how their alliance could be revealed. A member of the crew asks who Absa is, because this man seems to be the journalist who wrote this paper. Apparently, he would often write scoops lately. However Kidd says he does not care that the information has leaked. What disturbs him is the alliance of Luffy and Law, for it is certain that they have allied themselves to attack one of the Four Emperors, but he wonders which one it is.
On the island of Dressrosa, several Den Den Mushi do not unravel, they only ring. Doflamingo, however, responds to one call, that of Law and Straw Hats. They are astonished that he answers, but are warned by Usopp who asks them to shut up otherwise he would risk hearing them. Luffy shouts his name in the handset and declares that he will be the King of the Pirates, prompting Usopp to hit him. However, Luffy goes on and assures him that he was right to think that Doflamingo was the superior of Caesar Clown, and that he was aware of what Caesar had done to his subordinates and children. He also told Doflamingo that he would give him Caesar as promised, but would kill him if he ever started doing things like that again. When he’s about to finish, Doflamingo asks him if it’s been two years since Ace’s death.
He then remembers that Luffy disappeared then reappeared two years later and asks him what he has done all this time. Luffy refuses to answer, but Doflamingo tells him that he was eager to meet him. The “Joker”, goes on to say that he has something that Luffy will most certainly be interested in. Luffy instantly takes the handset thinking that Doflamingo is talking about the fabulous meat and starts to fantasize, but Law pushes his head away from the handset, warning him not to get into his “game”. He resumed the conversation and told Doflamingo that he would give him Caesar as he promised. Doflamingo reminds Law of what might happen to him if he tries to trick him.
Doflamingo then asks to confirm that Caesar is alive and well. Law points the handset to Caesar and the scientist attacks, begins apologizing while weeping but is cut by Law who takes over the handset. Law tells Doflamingo that in eight hours they will deliver Caesar on the beach South East of Green Bit, the deserted island north of Dressrosa, and leave it at 3pm. Doflamingo claims he is sad, saying he would have liked to have a drink with him. Law replies that the conversation is over and he hangs up the handset.
Luffy realizes that he almost diverted from the goal, and Usopp notices that Luffy’s eyes are shaped like meat. Sanji then realizes that they do not know how many men Doflamingo will take away. Law tells him it’s not a problem, and if everything goes as planned, Caesar will be nothing more than a bait. Usopp now understands Law’s plan. While Doflamingo is distracted, they will take advantage of it to destroy the factory that produces the Smiles. Law tells Usopp that this is true, but that there is just one problem with this plan. He does not know where the factory is … Franky reassures him by telling him that the factory must be large and that they will be able to see it easily, to the point that they will know its location thanks to one of its lasers . Law goes on to say that the difficulty in obtaining information hampered him. Nami thinks the factory is a high priority, so it could be that the information is top secret and not readily available.
Then Kinemon asks if they were going to Dressrosa because he has doubts since Law mentioned Green Bit. Law assures them that they are going to Dressrosa. Luffy asks Law if he has ever been to “Dressroba”. Law tells him not, since it is a country that is entirely under the control of Doflamingo. Luffy gets excited, saying he was feeling a new adventure happen, and that they will make a plan once there. He can not wait to see how is Dressrosa and hopes to go to Wa Country. Law asks if he really thinks they can go to this island without putting a plan in place. Luffy asks Sanji what they are going to eat for lunch, and Sanji replies that it will just be sandwiches. Chopper asks for a cotton candy sandwich while Robin just wants some tea. Law tries to tell them that he hates bread, but is shocked by the way the crew completely ignores it.
During the meal, Kinemon begins to tell his story and how he ended up on Punk Hazard. He asks Law if he knows a place called Zou. Law is surprised since this is where his crew is at the moment, and once the mission ended at Dressrosa, he planned to go to Zo. Kinemon eagerly asks if he and Momonosuke can travel together to Zo. Luffy fully agrees, and says they will go to Wa no Kuni while eating. Law tries to intervene, but Kinemon continues his story. Kinemon, Momonosuke, and two other samurai were on the way to Zo when they were wrecked. Kinemon, Momonosuke and one of the samurai have failed on Dressrosa. Momonosuke goes on, saying they were tied up the moment they arrived at Dressrosa. The young samurai hid on a boat where there were children who needed medical care. The boat went to sea and so Momonosuke ended up on Punk Hazard. Kinemon then proceeded to pursue the boat on seeing that his friend Kanjuro let himself be taken by the enemy to help him escape. Kinemon wants to give him that favor and save Kanjuro. Franky and Chopper are deeply moved by the story of Kinemon and Luffy says they will save him. Law yells at them and tells them that they should not forget their main purpose.
At the headquarters of the Navy, Rear-Admiral Brandnew gave a speech on how the 7 Great Corsairs should be, no more and no less, saying that their loyalty and power was supposed to have a deterrent effect on other pirates. He quotes the current members: The World’s Greatest Swordsman, “Hawk Eye” Draco Mihawk; The charismatic demon of the country of Dressrosa, “Tenyasha” Don Quixote Doflamingo; The human weapon of the Navy, “The Tyrant” Bartholomew Kuma; The current empress of Amazon Lily, “Empress Pirate” Boa Hancock; The rookie behind the Rocky Harbor incident, the “Surgeon of Death” Trafalgar Law; The living legend, “The One Thousand Clown” Baggy; And another that had been mentioned earlier (currently unknown).
That made seven people until the news breaks out this morning saying that Doflamingo resigned from his title. He adds that Law could be expelled if he continues his shenanigans and this would upset the balance of the Three Great Powers. He is then cut off by Sakazuki who makes his point. He told Brandnew that he would not let Law and the Straw Hats act as he pleased, adding that Smoker filed a boring report yesterday and that he had already sent Fujitora to the scene.
At Dressrosa, a few people asked Doflamingo not to make hasty decisions. Baby 5 asks a little girl where Trébol is. The old woman who plays cards is wondering what Doflamingo is going to do, and another subordinate says he is ready to fight if the Navy comes up, while an old man replies that they must obey the young master. Baby 5 sees Trebol above a tower, commenting that the country was in chaos and is sure that the whole world is also in chaos. He goes down and asks Baby 5 if the rumor about his last fiancé who was killed was true. Baby 5 says he’s too close and he’s too insistent. Trébol then asks if she loves him despite her insistence. Baby 5 told him to shut up and that Doflamingo wanted to see him, adding that he had to bring her “that” with him, and asked her to get away from her. He tells Baby 5 that she must be more discreet when she chooses a man, and then asks her to marry him, adding immediately after he joked. Baby 5 wonders if he needs her, prompting the two men behind her to tell her not to go.
In another piece, Doflamingo praises Diamante for his surveillance and popularity in the Colosseum. Diamante shrugs and says that the charism of King Doflamingo is the real reason behind the success of the Coliseum. Doflamingo insists that it is due to the know-how of Diamante, and calls it the “Hero”. Diamante tries to reprimand this, and when Doflamingo is about to agree this time, Diamante changes his mind and admits that he is the “hero” of the Colosseum. Trebol flows from the ceiling, saying he has what Doflamingo asked. Doflamingo tells him he is too close to him before taking the box and tells Trebol to take a seat.
Doflamingo confides the box to Diamante who is trying to pretend that it is too much for him until Doflamingo agrees with him again, and suddenly starts to change his mind and accepts. Doflamingo opens the box and releases a Demon Fruit, the “Mera Mera no Mi”, saying that Luffy will come to retrieve it, persuaded that he will not let anyone else have the powers of his “brother”.
Meanwhile, Straw Hats and company see off the island of Dressrosa, the land of Love and Passion …
